A physical security design consultant with knowledge across numerous security technologies including access control, analog and IP security camera technologies, intrusion detection systems, audio intercom and Call for Assistance systems, and supporting infrastructure. The physical security design consultant will be responsible for providing independent consultation services to individuals and businesses regarding physical security technologies. In addition, this person will handle all aspects of a technology project including site surveys, technology evaluation, system design, specification, project management, and the commissioning of systems.
Conduct technology assessments, site surveys, and security audits.
Develop detailed and appropriate project proposals.
Provide engineering and design services, drawings, installation details, and specification writing for access control, intrusion detection, intercom, emergency notification, and video surveillance systems.
Provide construction project management and oversight, system certification and commissioning, provide and track punch-list reports.
Provide budgetary estimates, technical information, recommendations, and support for clients.
Maintain current client relations, industry contacts and continue personal and client education on security systems, standards, and best practices.
Prepare clear and concise electronic reports and documentation which are situationally appropriate and relevant to the audience.
Communicate technical material to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Participate in as well as lead pre-bid, construction, renovation, kick-off and progress meetings, providing detailed and accurate agendas, meeting minutes and assigning action items.
Interface appropriately with a diverse client group including architects, engineers, information technology specialists, facility and security managers.
Conduct security system commissioning and turnover.
Develop written standards, policies, and procedures for system end users.
Review and edit project construction documents, schedules, plans and specifications prepared by others.
Create, edit, and review Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Pricing(RFP), Requests for Qualifications (RFQ), and Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity documents and contracts.
Experience with various access control manufacturers and integration partners, understanding the latest security system components, understanding of basic programming principles, design capabilities with the following systems:
Access control systems (smart card technologies, biometric)
CCTV Systems IP/POE cameras, VMS, video storage and cloud solutions
Intercom/video intercom integration
Elevator and access control integration
Security door hardware
Fire alarm integration
Experience with the legacy and latest CCTV systems, including video management systems (VMS), IP/POE camera design solutions.
Experience with video intercom & two-way voice communication systems for residential, commercial and base building lobby controls.
Experience with base building visitor management systems.
Knowledge of building codes and fire egress codes.
Effectively read architectural plans, low voltage wiring diagrams and red-line updates as needed.
Think creatively to find and implement solutions to fix issues.
Ability to work independently and collectively with a team.
Very good organizational skills to manage multiple projects at a time.
Required Skill Sets
ASIS certification as a CPP or PSP preferred. Certification will be required within the first year of employment is not currently certified.
7+ years of design experience including typical security technology solutions and knowledge of installation best practices.
Well versed in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, EXCEL, Publisher, Word and Outlook) as well as AutoCAD and Revit. Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn technology platforms to support various projects.
Experience in project types such as higher education, K-12, healthcare, corporate, government, and retail a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Understanding and commitment to client satisfaction.
Well developed and professional interpersonal skills; strong attention to detail, ability to interact effectively with people.
Valid driver’s license.
Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally.
